As little children, we listened in awe at stories about guardian angels. We marveled as tales of these servants of God, coming to save His creatures, were shared. Guardian angels protect man, especially children. This is Biblically true for in Matthew 18:10 Christ said, “See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.”

This enthralling wood carving celebrates the stewardship of an angel towards man in his most innocent stage. This sculpture made from local hardwood captures the magnificence of the heavenly being and a delicate infant. This wooden masterpiece reigns in the love of the celestial being towards the baby. It even evokes a seemingly Madonna and Child relationship.

Skillful craftsmanship is evidenced by the realistic features of both angel and infant. The sculpture boasts of masterfully shaping the visages of the guard and her ward. The angel wings were so exquisitely made that they look as if the heavenly being took a momentary rest from her flight to caress the child to slumber.
